At Fame Rugs, we understand the desire for glamour and luxury in interior design. Our Viscose Rugsβoften referred to as "art silk," "bamboo silk," or "rayon"βare the answer for decorators seeking high-end aesthetics. Viscose is a semi-synthetic fiber derived from wood pulp or bamboo cellulose, processed to create long, lustrous strands that mimic the qualities of natural silk. The result is a rug that offers an incredible sheen and a velvet-like texture that catches the light beautifully. These rugs are designed for the "jewel box" rooms of your home: spaces where aesthetics and comfort take precedence over utility. While they require a bit more care than standard synthetic or wool rugs, the visual payoff is unmatched. A viscose rug transforms a flat room into a dynamic space, adding depth, shimmer, and a touch of Hollywood Regency style to your floor.
Viscose fibers absorb dye deeply, resulting in rich, saturated colors and a signature shimmering finish.
The most distinctive feature of a viscose rug is its ability to reflect light. Depending on the angle from which you view the rug and the direction of the pile (the "nap"), the colors can shift dramatically. From one side, the rug may appear as a soft, silvery pastel; walk to the other side, and the colors deepen into rich, bold tones. This optical illusion adds a layer of sophistication that flat matte rugs simply cannot provide. Our collection features a wide range of styles, from abstract watercolor washes that look like modern art to traditional Persian medallions reimagined in metallic greys, champagnes, and blues. The high-definition capabilities of viscose weaving allow for incredibly intricate patterns that look crisp and refined.
Experience the softest fiber in the rug worldβcool to the touch and as smooth as silk.
If texture is your top priority, you will fall in love with viscose. The fibers are spun to be incredibly fine, creating a dense pile that feels cloud-like under bare feet. It is much softer than wool and lacks the static friction of polyester. Viscose rugs are typically low-to-medium pile to maintain the integrity of the design and maximize the sheen. Because the material is so sleek, it feels cool and refreshing, making it a delight in bedrooms. However, this softness comes with delicacy; the fibers are not as elastic as wool, meaning they can compress under heavy furniture over time. We recommend using furniture coasters to distribute weight and preserve the pile's loft.
Elevate your formal sitting area with a centerpiece that radiates elegance and light.
Viscose rugs are best suited for formal living rooms or "parlors" where foot traffic is light and shoes are often removed. They are not recommended for the main family room where kids and pets play, as the fibers are sensitive to moisture and rough wear. In a low-traffic sitting area, however, they are stunning. Place the rug under a glass coffee table or in the center of a conversation group to let the light hit it. The sheen of the rug pairs exceptionally well with velvet sofas, metallic accents (brass or chrome), and mirrored furniture, creating a cohesive, luxe look.
Create a hotel-quality master suite with the ultimate soft landing for your morning routine.
The bedroom is the safest and most popular place for a viscose rug. It is a low-moisture, low-traffic zone where the primary goal is comfort. Placing a large viscose rug under your bed frames the sleeping area in luxury. We recommend an 8x10 or 9x12 so you have plenty of soft rug extending on either side of the bed. We generally advise against using pure viscose rugs in dining rooms. Viscose is very absorbent and can be difficult to clean if food or red wine is spilled. If you love the look for a dining room, consider one of our viscose-wool blends, which offer a similar sheen with slightly improved durability.
Add a touch of shimmer to private, upstairs corridors with a runner that feels luxurious.
While we do not recommend viscose for a main entryway due to dirt and moisture from shoes, a runner in a private hallwayβsuch as the one connecting bedroomsβcan be a beautiful addition. It softens the acoustics of the home and adds a visual path of light. When selecting a runner, ensure it does not sit in direct sunlight for the entire day, as prolonged UV exposure can fade the vibrant dyes over many years. A runner pad is essential here to keep the lightweight rug from slipping on hardwood floors.
Because viscose rugs are statement pieces, proper sizing is essential to ensure they look intentional and grand.
A rug that is too small minimizes the dramatic effect of the sheen. You want the rug to fill the visual space. We recommend measuring your room and furniture layout carefully.
Viscose requires specific care: keep it dry, vacuum gently, and use professional cleaners only.
The most important rule for viscose is: avoid water. Viscose is a cellulose fiber that becomes weak when wet and can suffer from "cellulose browning" or water stains if not dried immediately and correctly. For spills, blot instantly with a clean, dry white clothβdo not rub. Do not use standard carpet cleaners or water-based spot removers. For deep cleaning, you must use a professional rug cleaner who specializes in "dry cleaning" or low-moisture extraction for fine rugs. For daily maintenance, vacuum with the beater bar turned off (suction only) and vacuum in the direction of the pile to keep it smooth. A high-quality felt rug pad is mandatory to protect the backing and prevent the rug from sliding.

Shedding is a normal characteristic of new viscose rugs. The fibers are staple fibers (short lengths spun together), and loose bits will surface initially. This is not a defect. Vacuum gently with suction only, and the shedding will subside significantly after a few weeks.
We strongly advise against using water on 100% viscose rugs. Water can alter the texture of the fibers (making them stiff) and cause yellowing or water rings. Blot the spill immediately with a dry cloth and contact a professional cleaner for specific advice.
Viscose is generally not recommended for households with pets that are not house-trained, or for areas where pets play roughly. Urine accidents can permanently damage the fibers and dyes, and sharp claws can snag the delicate loops or pile.
This is the "sheen" effect. Viscose fibers are like velvet; they have a direction. When you look "into" the pile, the color looks deep and rich. When you look "with" the pile, it reflects light and appears silvery or pale. This is a sign of a high-quality silky fiber.
Yes. Viscose rugs often have a flexible, soft backing that can slip easily on hard floors. A rug pad keeps the rug safely in place, prevents bunching (which can damage the fibers), and adds a layer of cushion that protects the rug from bottom-up wear.
