Every rug in this collection exists exactly once. These are vintage Turkish rugs — hand-knotted decades ago in Anatolian villages, sourced in person by our team, then washed, restored, and photographed individually. There is no reorder, no second size, no "similar item in stock." When a piece sells, that specific rug is gone.

That is a different way to shop than most rug sites work, so we have built these pages around it. Each listing shows the rug's true dimensions in both feet and centimeters, a condition grade with honest notes about wear, close-up detail photos, and customer videos of the rug in real rooms. You are buying a specific object, not a SKU.

What "One of a Kind" Actually Means

A one-of-a-kind rug is a single, individually sourced piece — not a design produced in multiple sizes and colorways. Most rugs sold online are power-loomed reproductions: the same pattern runs in 5x8, 8x10, and 9x12, in three color options, restocked indefinitely. A one-of-a-kind vintage rug has one size, one color story, and one history.

This also means dimensions are irregular. A rug might measure 6'4" x 9'1" rather than a catalog 6x9. Edges are rarely perfectly straight. These are characteristics of a hand-knotted piece, not defects, and we list the exact measurements so nothing arrives as a surprise.

Types of One-of-a-Kind Rugs in This Collection

Vintage Oushak Rugs

Soft, faded palettes — muted corals, sage greens, warm creams. Oushak rugs come from western Anatolia and are known for large-scale medallions and open fields. Their low pile and washed-out tones make them a common choice for living rooms and bedrooms where the rug should recede rather than dominate.

Vintage Anatolian Rugs

Denser geometry, deeper reds and blues, tighter knot counts. Anatolian rugs carry regional motifs that vary village to village. These work well in rooms with neutral furniture where the rug is meant to be the visual anchor.

Turkish Kilim Rugs and Runners

Flat-woven rather than knotted, so there is no pile at all. Kilims are reversible, lightweight, and sit almost flush with the floor — a practical choice for entryways, kitchens, and under dining chairs. Kilim runners are especially common in narrow hallways.

Choosing the Right Size

Because these rugs come in irregular dimensions, size selection matters more than usual. General guidance:

  • Living room: The rug should be wide enough that the sofa's front legs sit on it at minimum. A 3-seat sofa is about 84 inches; look for rugs 7 feet wide or more. A rug 9 feet wide or wider lets the full furniture group sit on top.
  • Bedroom: Under a queen bed, an 8x10 leaves roughly 18 inches of rug on each side. A 6x9 will cover the foot of the bed only. Smaller pieces work better beside the bed as landing mats.
  • Dining room: Chairs need to stay on the rug when pulled back. For a 6-seat table, that means at least 8x10, ideally larger.
  • Hallways and kitchens: Runners typically measure 2.5 to 3 feet wide and 6 to 12 feet long. Kilim runners are the most practical here because of their flat weave.

Condition and What to Expect

These rugs are between 30 and 100 years old. They have been on floors. Expect softened pile in high-traffic areas, slight color variation between one end and the other, and occasionally an old repair. We grade every piece and list specific notes rather than using vague terms like "good vintage condition."

What we do not sell: rugs with active structural damage, holes, or odor. Every piece is professionally washed before it is photographed, and anything that fails inspection does not get listed.

Caring for a Vintage Turkish Rug

Vacuum without a beater bar, or with the beater bar switched off — rotating brushes pull at hand-knotted pile. Rotate the rug every six months so sun exposure and foot traffic stay even. Blot spills immediately rather than rubbing. For deep cleaning, use a professional service that handles hand-knotted wool; standard carpet steam cleaning is too aggressive.

A rug pad is genuinely necessary with these pieces. Vintage rugs are often thin and low-pile, which means they slide, curl at the corners, and wear faster without a pad underneath.

Returns are accepted within 30 days — and because each piece is unique, we would rather you return it than keep something that does not work in your space.

Yes, within 30 days. We would rather take a return than have a piece sit in a room where it does not belong. Because each rug is unique, we recommend checking the scale diagram and condition notes on the product page first — most fit issues can be avoided before ordering.
